Let In The Light

Well the door is in and with 15 panes of glass this should let in lots of light. Prior to the door going in we used a large piece of Styrofoam to block off the doorway, keeping the animals from getting all over the projects ReBecca is working on. Now with the door it's easier to just pull it behind her rather than fitting the Styrofoam in place. The door stops are in and I'll be doing the trim work later in the winter, this way when I get the pine we'll bring it into the house for a little while, helping it dry out and shrink a bit for a better fit and looks better in the winter when things dry out normally.

New Door

Well it's new to us anyway. This was a great find at the Re-Use It store in Saint John. The inside cleaned up well but the outside was well worn, the paint baked on, as well as several gouges on the bottom under the door knob, most likely from a dog. I cleaned up the outside to a point, ReBecca wants to leave it rough looking for the inside of the studio, so just a bit of fine sanding to smooth it out and several coats of poly for protection. The inside, now the outside was primed and got a few coats of white paint. What took so long was the stripper was a bit harsh, on me and once that was cleaned up and before any poly or paint went on, all the 15 window muntins had to be sanded and the windows panes masked off to reduce the amount of scraping that was done cleaning the glass, both sides. It's ready to go, with an old mortised lock-set to go in and older knobs that you'll see once it' up.

A Little Drywall

Today was another cold one and the cut through didn't happen, maybe tomorrow, in the mean time I put up some drywall in the mudroom and new covers for the new outside lights. The old ones weren't large enough. The drywall may not be up to our contractors standards but mud will fix everything.

The New Door

Our new patio door was installed today, even with it being a little on the chilly side, it went very well, the men did a great job. It wasn't a surprise to me to not see insulation in the wall once the drywall was pulled away. After the new door was installed they took out the old one, framed it in and started the siding. While everything was open one of the outside lights was relocated to the other side of the new door. As the guys were outside working on the siding, I started with the insulation, and vapor barrier, the rest of the wall will get tied in soon but for now this is a start. Here is how the day went.

As we move forward with our reno we will soon be taking down the ceilings on the first floor of the main house and in an attempt to keep some of the dust and debris contained we installed an old door between the house and the addition. I also spray foamed around the jamb to help keep the dirt on one side.
