A New Look

On Monday we went window shopping, yes looking for windows, our second attempt at finding new windows. We were successful and  now it was time to install. There was a bit of prep work involved, making headers, cutting Jack and King posts, getting the height correct. With all this done we started the install on Saturday morning and finished putting the siding back up late in the evening. That was for the two new ones on the west side of the addition, and did I mention, a window had to come out and the some restructuring was required to fit the new one. Today the north window was done, same thing happened, off with the siding, out with the old, add new header and supporting framework, in with the new and back on goes the siding. Here is how it went.

A simple look.

Just cot complicated.

Just cut a couple of holes, that's all.

It fits great and looks good too.

Out with the old.

Frame it up for the new one.

Looks about right.

It was.

Put the siding back on and its fantastic.

Looks good from the inside as well.

You can see where the old window was.

A simple window to look out.

A little inside work.

Siding is back up, but it may need a little something.

Let The Light Shine In

The bathroom window is finally in. After a bit of work building the framing, header and sill plate, it fit great. The siding came off without too much trouble and went on the same. Like most jobs where they put vinyl siding on, the old siding isn't taken off, and that was the case here as well. The old cedar shingles are still on the house, they just put ¾ inch Styrofoam panels on to level it out and nailed the siding through it. I guess it adds to the insulation layers????
Frame work being put in place.
The old siding still in place.
Finally cut out the opening.
It lines up with the west windows in the kitchen, great for cross breeze.
Window installed and siding put back, you would never know.
