The Trim Is Up

I have been busy with the trim, I got it installed and filled the nail holes and fixed up a few gaps at the corners. And I got them sanded, a coat of paint is on and a bead of caulk around the outside of the trim and around the inside of the frame where it meets the window, so it looks complete. I have a bit more touch up work ahead with another coat of paint. Here is what they looked like after the filler dried. By the way it didn't take me this long to do the work, I had major computer problems so it's taken a few day to straiten that mess up and now I can show you our progress.

The Last Pair

Well I got the last two windows trimmed out and they look great. As I mentioned earlier, now I have to sand, full, sand, and paint, so there won't be much to show everyone, which means I won't be posting anything until I have them done. Please be patient.

And It Continues To Look Good

Today I got the trim up on the windows upstairs, there are a few things I need to do before I finish nailing them to the wall, but over all they're up and what a look. I'm very happy how they have turned out and once I'm done with some of the finer work like filling nail holes, sanding and painting they'll be even better. Here they are.

A Whole New Look

It's amazing how a few pieces of painted pine can change how a room looks. Yesterday I took the second batch of trim to the house, one more day of letting the paint cure won't hurt it. Today I started on the windows, I did the kitchen and dining room. It does take a bit of time to install the trim, this is a two piece setup. And to add to the mix I had a little adjusting to do with the window frames so they would have a smother fit. In the pictures you'll see some joints that are not a tight as I would like, that is because I am working with existing construction and when I nail the trim to the frames it's a good fit, but when I nail them to the walls well it opens the joint a bit. Nothing a bit of fill can't fix, along with a bit of sanding and paint, and all is new again.

And The Second Half

Onec again two coats of primer and two coast of trim paint are on. Tomorrow I'll take them to the house to set for another day, and I should be starting the install Saturday. If the weather is good. Here are a couple more pictures of the progress made, there is a diffrence, trust me.

The First Half

There are so many pieces of trim work that I can't prime and paint them all at the same time, even my shop has limits. I did most of the larger pieces of trim in this first batch. Yesterday I applied two coats of primer and today I rolled on two coats of trim paint, a bright semi-gloss white. They'll get a couple more coats of trim paint after they are installed. You may not be able to see the difference but here are a couple of pictures from the last two days.

Things Are Taking Shape

It wasn't a bad week, while I was waiting for the wood to acclimatize to the heat again I did some wood turning for ReBecca. I make some laying tools and nostepindes, along with square knitting needles. You can see that work on my WP Wood working blog at http://wpwoodworking.blogspot.ca/. I also had to repair the lathe, my live centre broke and I had to put in another bearings.

Now for the trim work. I cut the boards to rough length and then to width, which is 4 inches for the main part of the trim. I then cut the outer part of the trim work to width and then ran it through the router twice to round over the ends. Then back to the table saw for two more passes to cut out a rabbit to fit over the main trim. Today I sanded all the trim work. 100 pieces in total. I used a stationary belt/disk sander, which I fitted with a crude dust collection line. It work very well, keeping the pine dust down.

We're Still Here

It has been a little slow lately, the weather being a little cold and the blizzard does put a damper on things. I picked up the wood yesterday for the trim work for the windows. I picked up 240 feet of 1 x 6 pine, which will be cut to 4 inches and the cut offs will be used to make up the outside edge of the trim. Once they are cut, prified and sanded, I'll prime and paint them, then out to the house we go. I have to let them warm up in the shop a few days, as they are stored outside and I don't want to cut into frozen wood.

This is my work load, 22 10 footers, and 5 8 footers.
