One More Thing Off The List

With most of the big jobs completed, at least until we move here, there are a few things on the list that I can take care of. One is replacing the toggle switches with rocker ones, not a difficult job and with the covers on it almost looks completed. You may notice in the kitchen picture that the floor is different. Last week ReBecca painted it, we want to try to keep the dust down and it gives us an idea of colour for the future. I think it's a bit dark for a finished look, but what do I know, I'm labour. Here are a couple of pictures of the bathroom and kitchen, the other rooms look the same, this gives you a idea of what's in place.

Looking almost completed.

The rocker switches are great.

They may be easier to see here.

A nice look.

A Bit Of Touching Up

Over the past few days I have been touching up the cupboards, baseboards, window and door trim. Some things I didn't do and knew I'd get to them when I finished the cupboard doors. So here is a shot of what it looks like now. I think I'm done, maybe a little bit of paint here and there to clean up some areas. After the "Boss" takes a look I'll have a better idea where I stand, I know she likes what she sees so far.

They Fit Like A Glove

The cupboards over the tub fit like a glove, after screwing them in and a little adjustment to the door hardware, I only have to clean up the edges. To make them seamless all I need is a little paint and the same for the last few pieces of baseboard I put in a few weeks ago and this room is done. I couldn't get both in the picture for the front on view, there wasn't enough room.

They are in and almost invisible.

A nice fit.

They need only a little touch up and that's it.

Bathroom Cupboards

Over the past few days I have been working on the bathroom cupboards, the face frame went on OK so I worked on the doors. Once they were cut to size I ironed on the edge banding and gave them a bit of paint, then tried to fit them. I did say "tried", because they were a little large, so after a bit of sanding and a little more, and a after iroing on a couple of side with new edges, they received a fresh coat of paint and that was it. I picked up the hardware for the doors, European hinges and a spring loaded holder. We don't want handles and they won't really be access every daily. The left door hinges went on well and with a few adjustments it was done. The right one went on just as well except, when I removed some of the box in one corner to what I thought would make it fit better, it made the frame crooked. So to the table saw I went, squared it up by cutting off the frame, cleaning up the edge and re-attaching the frame, properly. Then the door went in square, after a bit of sanding it was done and now the touch up painting begins before I take them out and install them.

Everything in place.
They pop open nicely and now for the paint.

There's Always Something To Do

With the lions share of the reno done, at least what I can do for now, it`s back to completing some of the other jobs that didn`t get done earlier. This job is to build the doors for the cupboards over the tub. I have to make the frames and then the doors. The doors will fit flush with the low profile frames and as you can see everything will be painted the same colour as the walls to try and hide them a bit. We don't`what them to jump out at us, after all they are only cupboards.

The frames will have mitered corners and
attached with biscuits and glue.

The right side has a little bump out because of the
exhaust hose from the bathroom fan.

It's Not All About Renovations

With the baseboards done, and the great weather upon us, it's time to get outside and get some yard work done. I took a couple of days to cut the lawn, took my time and with a front wheel drive lawn mower it's a lot easier to walk around it. ReBecca spent a few days cleaning up the shed and transplanting. And there's more work to be done in the shed, she's very busy. I also put together the start of our compost piles, yes I said 'piles'. After what felt like a very long winter it's nice to get outside.

Hard to see, but it's freshly cut.

This is just a start of what she has planed.

They're Done

Yes, they're done, at least for now. I touched up a few spots with fill and paint, pulled off the tape, cleaned up the floor (a bit) and the only thing that should be done is to tidy up the top with the approrate room paint to give it a crisp line. That can be done on a rainy day. With the tape removed you may be able to see how they really look.

They Are Shaping Up

The baseboards are shaping up nicely. I got the first coat of trim paint on and I'll go over them closer tomorrow to see were I need to touch them up. Until then this is what they look like, you may see an improvement over the previous pictures.

A Little Sanding And A Little Silicone

Today I wet sanded the fill, it keeps the mess down and clean up is easy. After an hour with knee pads on I got to work applying the silicone. This is a nice finishing touch, it fills the areas between the wall and baseboard, some corners, and at the ¼ round, giving it clean lines. In these pictures may be hard to see the results, but if you look at the other ones you can see how they look. Tomorrow after I take another long walk, I'll give it the first coat of paint.

A Snow Day

After using up one of my "snow days" on Monday, I thought I would get some work done. I applied the wood fill to the nail holes and a few of the corners that weren't quite square. As I was already on my knees I put down the painters tape in preparation for painting. Not mush to see but you get the idea, as well I don't think you need to see every piece of baseboard to see whats ahead of me.
