The Lower Studio

Well it just needs trim around the doors and windows (which will come later on) and the lower studio is ready to be put back together. There is a bit of flooring work required, locations were the closet and partition walls were, we have some ideas but will wait until it's done first. The walls got primed, painted and the ceiling turned out rather well, just saying. The wall brackets are up, the top and bottom shelves are in place, ReBecca will decide where the others go. We even put in a small heater to keep the chill out in the winter, it is a wall mounted convection style heater, and with the walls now insulated it won't take much to keep it warm. Here are a few pictures of how the past week and a half went. It is hard to see the colour in the walls but it's there, and it's called "Morning Glow".

Slow, But Steady

Progress may be a bit slow, but it's steady. The old wall dividing the old living space the back bedroom has been removed and the wires relocated to the new wall. Thank goodness the old attic access is still there, I had 17 inches of space to move the wires around to the new positions. It's amazing how big a room can be once a few 2 x 4's have been removed. The walls are now properly insulated and vapor barrier is up. There is so much stuff in this room I have to do it piece meal, once this part is done we can move everything over and finish off the other side. The drywall went up without a hitch and the tap and mud has started, Here are a few pictures of the progress so far.

A New Look

On Monday we went window shopping, yes looking for windows, our second attempt at finding new windows. We were successful and  now it was time to install. There was a bit of prep work involved, making headers, cutting Jack and King posts, getting the height correct. With all this done we started the install on Saturday morning and finished putting the siding back up late in the evening. That was for the two new ones on the west side of the addition, and did I mention, a window had to come out and the some restructuring was required to fit the new one. Today the north window was done, same thing happened, off with the siding, out with the old, add new header and supporting framework, in with the new and back on goes the siding. Here is how it went.

The Last Leg

After taking down a couple of more cupboards and moving a few items, the last of the drywall is down, including the last leg in the mud room by the back door. Now we look for windows, see where the wiring may need to be relocated and we can properly insulate and vapor barrier these rooms. It's has been a while but now it will be done properly. I took 530 kgs of material to the transfer station today, that's a lot of drywall, and that means that much to go back on. OH BOY, can't wait.

Doors Up and Walls Down

Since my last post I have installed a couple of doors, three to be precise. Two leading from the mud room to the new (modified) room, and a relocated door from the old back bedroom to the new closet. The mud room is taking shape nicely. I pulled down some more drywall, the bedroom side of the dividing wall and the drywall around the closet. Notice the foil covered Styrofoam, this is the only insulation in the entire addition that was put on prior to us owning the home. Can you imagine putting an 80+ year old woman, a family member to say the least, in this space without any insulation in the walls. The Styrofoam is only rated at an R-4, at best. We have a few more changes we want to make to this space and I'll correct this, right away.
