All Closed Up

The last window is now in and all the siding is in place, they will come back when it warms up some to replace a few that were damaged during construction. This window isn't exactly what we wanted but it will work, it will let in more light and some day light into the future bathroom. We painted the floor to keep the dust down like downstairs and we'll be moving a few things in for temporary storage to make room down stairs for the floors. So as for anymore posts regarding our second floor addition, this will be it for a while, if all goes well you'll see some progress pictures of the kitchen, that is if I'm allowed to post them, ReBecca may want it kept secret for a while.

An Empty Room

This room is now empty, but it won't be for long. We want to paint the floor just to keep the dust down and then we'll be starting to put our things in there, temporarily for now. Once the kitchen is done and the floors laid we'll be able to unpack a few more boxes. For now this well have to work.

Walking In

Well no more crawling through the window to get into our new second floor addition, they cut through today. It went well and as expected a bit messy, nothing a broom, garbage bag and mop couldn't fix. It's nice to be at this stage, a few more things to tidy up in there, I did get the rest of the insulation and vapor barrier in, it needs to be tidy up a bit, I'll do that tomorrow.

Almost There

One window, six short pieces of siding and a little soffet work and it would have been done, but when the window came today they added drain holes but on the side. The window was to go in vertically not horizontally, and with a window that doesn't open, we were wondering does it need drain holes? A new one is ordered and will be in sometime. If the crew can make it out tomorrow with this large storm coming in they'll be cutting through, we'll see.

A Little Drywall

Today was another cold one and the cut through didn't happen, maybe tomorrow, in the mean time I put up some drywall in the mudroom and new covers for the new outside lights. The old ones weren't large enough. The drywall may not be up to our contractors standards but mud will fix everything.

The New Door

Our new patio door was installed today, even with it being a little on the chilly side, it went very well, the men did a great job. It wasn't a surprise to me to not see insulation in the wall once the drywall was pulled away. After the new door was installed they took out the old one, framed it in and started the siding. While everything was open one of the outside lights was relocated to the other side of the new door. As the guys were outside working on the siding, I started with the insulation, and vapor barrier, the rest of the wall will get tied in soon but for now this is a start. Here is how the day went.

R20/R40

Most of the room is now insulated, only the south end to do, and that will be done after they cut through and a couple of small walls are built. The walls have an insulation rating of R 20 and the ceiling is R 40. Our contractor wanted it blown in but we have work to do like heat and electrical and so he said we should put two layers of R20 to give us a better rating, and for the price it was a good call.

Almost There

The final work is about to begin, the siding is up on the back and scaffolding is down around most of the building, once we get the last window straightened out the last bit of siding can go up. Our contractor was into to discuss the window, as well as the new door, and is hopeful they'll be done this coming week. I have been busy putting up insulation and vapor barrier in preparation for the cut through. A bit more to do tomorrow and after they cut through and build a couple of walls.

Windows

Two more window were installed today, we are waiting on the last one, we couldn't get the original in because of the roof line and an interior wall, so a smaller one is needed. Now to get it designed the way we want and built. More siding went up on the back side, but it's a bit cool in the shade and windy so they are on the west side, now that last window is in.

They tried but its cold and exposed to the wind up there.

Siding And Fascia

Over the last two days the crew have been putting up fascia, soffets and siding, as well as a little repair work to the old roof where the old fascia and soffets were, the wood was rotten. So to have something sold to secure the flashing too that little bit need work. Even though it wasn't -20 out side the wind did make it much colder than it was, along with some tedious areas and precise measurements needed for the siding to go around windows and the three gables.
