Now This Is What You Call A Snow Fall

This started at 5 PM last night and went into the night, turned to ice pellets and now light rain, good morning Searsville. It is very heavy and I have my work cut out for me, I don't know if the snow blower can throw it very far, wait we have a tractor now, not a problem. I just have to  worry about the decks and that's about it. We lost a small tree by the shop and a branch off one of the pines, as well we cut down the grove of trees in the front yard that reached up to the power and phone lines. They alway bothered us and it's a good thing they are gone now.

Lots of it.

There is a squril in that feeder again.

Small Projects

Over the past few days I have been doing little projects, like a new panel in shed so we can get power and lights back on, as well I decided to insulate the basement entrance area. It only had the rigid foam board under the siding and the attic space done, now the walls are done and we can let the the heat from the basement up and use the space as light storage. In the mean time I'll be putting the generator in there so if we lose power I won't have to haul it from the shop up and around the house. This way I just have to shovel a small path to roll it out and then we're ready to go. It will sit on a platform that spans the stairwell and this will roll out to the door and I just have to turn the generator and out the door. It pays off saving about everything we come across.  I say this because have you ever wondered what to do with the old refrigerator rollers we used so we could get them out, well I finally found a use.

A small space.

Now insulated.

Of course both side are done.

The generator platform.

Just have to roll it to the door now.

Round Two

Yesterday was a snow day, of sorts. I still got the last piece of baseboard in and the toe kick covers made, in spite of the snow. It looks like this may be staying for a while, some rain early this week but the temps are low and I don't know if it will wash it away. I like winter but for some reason I'm not ready for this, at least this soon.

New Baseboards

Well the baseboards are in and painted, it has taken a while to get the far, a few things got in the way like taking a trip for our 25th, just say'n. Anyway I've cut, profiled, sanded, primed, painted and installed about 110 liner feet of 8 inch baseboard and the same for the ¾inch quarter round, since the doors were framed and trimmed out. Since Thursday I filled the nail holes, closed up some gaps with silicon to hide the imperfections of the wall's, wood and maybe, just maybe my work. Then they were sanded, primed, and painted. Along with all the existing window and door frames, to clean up them up because since they were installed a year and a half ago we've added heat to the house and over the past year the wood has dried out some, so they needed attention. And we finally painted the front door, what a difference.

The door before.

Much better.

The First Dusting

The white stuff came early this year, and the good thing is it didn't stay. When the Nor'easter came through we only go a little snow, compared to central and norther NB, they got much more. It looks nice and like I said it was gone within a day.

The Other Side

Yesterday I put on the trim for the mudroom side of the door. It required a little adjusting prior to installation, I doubt anyone will notice, it looks just the same.

The mudroom side done.

Doors Framed And Trimmed Out

The front door has some new frame work and trim, along with the doorway into the mudroom (AKA the addition first floor). I still have some trim to put up on the mudroom side but that won't take long and I'll be starting the base boards. It's amazing how they look now, wait until the base boards go up.

A new look, now to paint the door.

Old door frame is gone, new on installed, with trim.

One More Light Changed Out

It may take us a while to find lights but we do find one's that we like, at least they'll work for now. We picked this one up today, it's nice and bright, I think a dimmer switch may be in order hear. Now it shows all the imperfections in the ceiling and that needs to be done, soon I'm told.

This has worked for a couple of years now, why change???

The new look.

Close up, the blotches are from the camera, sorry.

See what I mean about a dimmer switch.

A Couple More Doors

I have a couple of doors to trim out and one to frame in and I'll be ready to get at the baseboards. They are now done, primed and painted, next step installation.

8 inch baseboards with ¾ inch quarter rounds waiting.

Door trim drying.

Door frame for between the house and addition.

New Neighbors

We went to a bee outing yesterday to learn more about them and to see first hand hives and talk to others. There were hobbyists and some who use them for commercial purposes. A great outing and very nice to see. Come next spring we'll be starting out with one hive and see how it goes. Hopefully lots of honey and wax.

Checking out the cluster.

They're getting ready for winter.

Cleaning up some honey.

Very gentle creatures.
