A Clean Slate - Almost

The primer went on today in the kitchen, dining room and living room. I'll have to put on a second coat where the old colours were, they bleed in a bit and if we put on light colours we don't what them to affect what we put on. Tomorrow the hallway, which by the way goes up the stairs and into the upstairs hallway. A little bit in the bedrooms where I moved a couple of switches and that should be it. Today I had a prisoner, I let him/her go in the same place I let my first one go, hopefully they meet up and start a new life there. I can only hope it was a different one this time, I have a bit of work in the basement, finding a hole???

Tweek'n

I cleaned up what I couldn't see yesterday, because of all the dust, and tweaked a few spots that needed it. Tomorrow, I'll tidy them up and start with the primer. Hopefully I won't have too many more touch ups to do after that. While I was working in the kitchen I saw at the south dining room window our little friend, climbing the chair and then the screen trying to look in. I think this may be the mate to the other one I took for a ride. She may be thinking "I know you're in there, come out with the food. Now. " Little does she know.

Round Three Done

After 4 hours of sanding, the old fashion way, the third coat is done. I did see after the dust settled a few spots I have to go over, so tomorrow will be a touch up day, and I think I'll go with the wet sanding method for these small areas. As well there are a few locations that I'll need to put on a little mud, so Saturday I'll clean them off and hopefully be able to get started on priming everything. And today I had another prisoner, actually I think it's the same one, this time we went for a little drive up the road. Don't worry, I released him and hope he'll start a new life away from ours. But I doubt it. Here are a few shots after the sanding, hard to see how it looks but trust me, it's looking good.

Round Three Continues

Another day of putting on the mud went well, I did run out and will finish tomorrow. A couple of short day's won't hurt me. I'm trying to get it as smooth as possible and it does look good, but the proof will be after I sand it and put on a coat of primer. This is were you can really see if there are any areas that may need a bit more attention. Good luck to me. Here area a few pictures of today's work, some of it is still wet and you can see the mud is getting wider as I flair out the edges.

The Prisoner

Yesterday was an actual and full rest day, we visited ReBecca's sister and enjoyed the day. Today I started the third coat of mud, most of what is there looks good I have several spots that need the third coat, others still need to be built up a bit and may need a fourth, just to keep the lines strait. I also had a visitor the other day in the basement, I tried to fill in the holes were he got in, but it looks like I have some more work to do. Here is my prisoner, I caught some time between 10:00 AM yesterday and 8:30 AM today. I did set him free and set up the trap again, I can only hope he's not back.

Wet Sanding???

Today and yesterday were dedicated to sanding, and this time it was wet sanding. We heard about it from a friend, you use a sponge and wipe the area down, and feather the edges. This is done on the first and second coats, the third is done with sand paper. Our first coat was a bit rough and this method wouldn't work. The second coat went on smother and the wet sanding method worked great. Thank you Beth for the tip.

For this job here are the tools of the trade. Once the mud is wet again,
it's easy to scrape down any little ridges.

Round Two - Part Two

It only took just over 5½ hours to put on the second coat of mud in the dining room, hallway and living room, not bad actually and I don't feel too bad, I'll wait until tomorrow to call it though. You may be able to see some of the work today in these pictures, because some of the mud is still wet and you can see how the seams are getting wider as I flair out the edges. I didn't add comments under the pictures, I figure you can figure out what is what by now.

Round Two

Yesterday was a day for sanding and not worth taking a picture or two, too dusty. Today I put on the second coat in the kitchen. It took a little longer because I wanted the corners cleaner and overall smother to reduce the sanding time. To took about 4 hours and tomorrow I'll get the rest done. Here are couple of pictures of the second coat, not that you can seem much difference between coats.

A Quick Job

Today was going to be a rest day, but I had one more little job to do. I forgot to replace the edging on a beam that crosses the hallway. There was a rounded edge piece installed and we want clean, crisp lines so out with the round and in with the square. It didn't take long and the mud is on, so I'll just have to wait another day to start sanding. I'd rather do it all in one day rather than a bit at a time. Here are a couple of shots of today's quick job, not much to see, and now for a rest (½) day.

First Layer Is On

Today we finished putting on the mud, as expected it took a while, but it up. We tried to keep it thin, some areas will require some build up and I'm afraid I got a little over zealous in some spots and it may not be dry tomorrow. If not I get a rest day, and will need it.
