Bail It Up

When the weather is right it doesn't take long to bail the hay. They dropped the field one day, the next they raked it and then bailed it. The field looks great.

After a second and third coat of mud and wet sanding, then a coat of primer the beam almost disappears. It looks better and once the touch up paint on the walls goes on, it will be like it wasn't there. I hope.

Alway Something To Finish

It's been a while since I did any drywall work and this needed to be done. The beam in the living room had to be covered up and if we are to move out, hopefully soon then it's best to get it done now, before the floors are finished.

Once the mud dries, I'll wet sand to keep the dust done.

The Door Stops Here

I know the phrase is "The Buck Stops Here" but I installed door stops and don't have any bucks. They went in very well, they are a little narrower than traditional stop strips but with everything trim white they blend in nicely.

Well we are living at the house for the summer. We took out a few things to be comfortable and will be making trips back to do laundry and of course pick up anything we might need. So the posts may be slowing down for a while as we are going to try to enjoy the summer this year. I'll put up what new posts when we do something, until then be patient.

Pulling Out All The Stops

We're not really pulling out all the stops, I'm making them, the door stops that is. To ensure the stops are thick enough to conceal all the openings once the door is closed I thought it would be easier to just make them. After all I'd have to paint them anyway. So here they are with a few coats of paint and then I'll get them installed.

New Hardware

It was a long day and a productive one, I got the four doors hung and the hardware on. I still have to make a couple of adjustments to two of them by way of sanding the bottoms a bit so they'll swing open. The master bedroom and dressing room doors went up without too much trouble. With a 120+ year old home not everything is plumb, and with the door frames being plumb they conflict with the floors, a little bit. Other than that, I'll install the door stops, once I make them and this should be a done deal. Until I make the one's ReBecca really wants.

Four Doors - No Waiting

Over the past couple of days I have been painting the doors. To make things a little easier and have them all done at the same time I did them standing up. It was a lot easier and it went very well. I have three coats on now and will see tomorrow if they need one more, maybe once they are installed I can touch them up then.

Making Room For Hardware

Today I only cut out the holes for the door handles and chiseled out the locations for the hinges. I was going to start painting them but it's cool and damp, still so it's best to wait. Here are a couple of pictures of today's efforts, not exciting but it's progress.

The Doors

I'm not talking about the group but hollow core doors. As mentioned in a previous post we picked up four 6 panel doors that were 30 x 80, so I had to trim them up, or should I say down to size. After cutting them to length the piece that came off had the bottom frame work of the door in it and I had to make new ones to fit. These were made of pine and not press wood. I had a bit of time this morning and I clued them in. Tomorrow I'll cut the openings for the door handles and hinges, then give them the first coat of paint.
